The mid-term elections have brought great news for LGBT equality in California. Jerry Brown has been elected Governor, and he is the first Governor to fully support equality for every LGBT person in the state. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris is leading the tight race for Attorney General, though the final result is weeks away. Both Brown and Harris have vowed not to appeal Judge Walker’s historic ruling finding Prop. 8 unconstitutional.
Also elected were pro-equality candidates Gavin Newsom for Lieutenant Governor, Dave Jones for Insurance Commissioner and Tom Torlakson for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Victoria Kolakowski was elected to the Alameda Superior Court and will become the nation’s first elected transgender judge. Richard Pan won his race for Assembly, beating Prop. 8 author Andy Pugno.
Also re-elected, U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer. Check Equality California for a complete list!
