Lady Gaga has ended a potential marketing deal with huge retailer Target, and says the reason is based on the company’s failure to renounce its support for politicians and groups that are against equality for gay people.
Target made a $150,000 corporate donation last year to MN Forward, a group that supported Minnesota governor hopeful Tom Emmer, who opposes same-sex marriage.
In an interview with Billboard magazine, Gaga said that the Target deal hinged on the company revising its position on gay issues. “Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGTB charity groups, and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they’ve made in the past.”
Target countered by saying that they have also supported pro-gay organizations, but they decided to not renounce their past financial support for MN Forward.
