According to the Associated Press, Texas Governor Rick Perry, who is the lead contender for leadership of the GOP, has reneged on his promise to honor individual states gay marriage rights, and has signed the National Organization for Marriage pledge. Very recently, Perry said that he was fine wth New York’s gay-marriage law.
The terribly homophobic and racist pledge that Perry has signed ensures that, if elected, he will send a constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman to the states for ratification, and appoint U.S. Supreme Court and federal judges who will “reject the idea our Founding Fathers inserted a right to gay marriage into our Constitution.”
The CNN/ORC International Poll, which surveyed Republicans and GOP-leaning independents, showed Perry leading with 27% support. Mitt Romney trails with 14%, Rep. Michele Bachmann has 9% percent, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Ron Paul are both at 6% support.
